Staged photography In her photographic work, which is displayed as a large series, she plays the protagonist herself. The subject matter is staged. Barbara Armbruster appears in various disguises, wearing wigs and old pieces of clothing from flea markets. She slips into different roles and identities, adopting familiar yet unsettling poses and postures that either correlate with the space in a unique way or appear to contradict it. The photos have an enigmatic feel to them, even though the spaces she shows can be clearly identified, such as a ballet hall, a basement, a field or a living room. ” (Quote from the introduction to the 2008 exhibition at the Städtische Galerie Kirchheim by Adrienne Braun)
